Food For Thought # 1:
Write a response in which you defend, challenge or qualify the argument presented in the following quote:
The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.
--Theodore Roosevelt
--Theodore Roosevelt
I agree with this quote. it's very important to know how to get along with people because it's not what you know, but who you know. Therefore, you should always be cooperative with people. Also, throughout life you will come into contact with people you don't like. Nevertheless, in certain situations you just have to get along with them in order to be successful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both the quote and Tangela because you will always run in contact with people you have to get along with or will need in order to reach your success. For example , with networks you are able to gain greater opportunities in your life. Not only that, but, for instance you need reccommendation letters in order to reach a higher success in learning. This means that you will have to gain relationships and get along with people because they will help you to grasp that higher level that you plan on reaching. It's not only the skills you have alone , but also the skills you have with others as well.
ReplyDeleteGetting along with others is to show a marksmen ship that people may 'play nice with others' and will be able to get a job done without any commotion or smart remarks. It's putting in the effort and receiving it too, in a job all people are looking for the same thing... They might not want to say it, but in all they are such as: money for support, and the working experience.Without getting along with others one cannot gain 'connections' into this greater world that is slowly losing value. But, as a person goes through many jobs and they learn and teach based off what they've experienced through that time. They show it not through their words of you telling them how their day went, but how they walk, how they present themselves in front of the 'boss' the man- or woman that controls the business or unit. Without these people that we have to work besides we wouldn't know what we struggle in, or what we need to fix. In class or life everyone has their positives and negatives, but they also have their weakness and what their good at; Being near others is a good way to learning and also being nice and friendly shows another door to possibles that can be reached just through a word of saying 'Hello.'
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote , because in-order to be successful in life you will need to get along with others in-order to meet and exceed your own goals and expectations. Also you will have to get along with others in the workforce , and employers don't want employees that bicker back in forth and can not finish the most simplest task because of arguments. Furthermore when it comes to pursuing a higher level of education as Tracey said, it would be extremely beneficial for you to get along with others so when you need that letter of recommendation for college or another form of institutional learning you can have it and can have peer interactions as one of your best qualities. In life everything is about working with a team of people so having strong interactions with others will help you out in a long run.
ReplyDeleteGetting along with others is extremely crucial in becoming success because the only way you become successful is by being taught by others. Throughout your entire life you're going to keep learning from all types of people. Thus, getting along with them is key so they'll be able to teach you what you need to know in your career. Also, getting along with people lets you come into a comfortable learning or working environment. This environment makes you less stressed and make things easier to learn. Lastly, you don't know how many opportunities can be brought up if you have a positive relationship with people. For example, if your a student interested in the medical field like myself, you might be able to shadow a surgeon if you have a good relationship with one. All in all, you key to success is other people so its smart to build these positive relationship now instead of wait until everyone dislikes you and then try. Success is taught by teaching and you don't teach yourself most of the time.
ReplyDeleteWhile getting along with others may play a very substantial role in ones success through life, I disagree with the statement that it is the single most important ingredient to achieving success. With confidence, I can assure that some of the most successful and influential people in the world have not achieved triumph by making sure that as they exit the room, everyone behind them has a smile on their face and good feelings within themselves. Take Barack Obama for example- arguably one of the most prominent men of our day- he clearly doesn't make it an issue to appease all of the members of his council. If he were to spend the time it takes to "get along" with everyone instead of focusing on the actual issues our country faces, the purpose of his presidency would be defeated because instead of identifying and striving to solve the world’s problems, his focus would be on making sure everyone’s needs are met. In addition, getting along with everyone is almost impossible and quite irrational in regards to achieving ones accomplishments. We all know it to be a fact that people are extremely hard to please and once certain roads are crossed, getting along may be out of the question. So, as stated before I believe that getting along with others is important because to become successful means to build bridges, network and create opportunities that include having good relationships with others, however getting along is definitely not the most important factor contributing to success and achievement.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this quote because you need to get along appropriately with people to make relationships with them. Without relationships, a person isn't going to make it far in life because they have no one there to guide them into the right directions. You don't even need to be someones friend, but you should always be cordial with them because maybe in the near future, they can help you with your success. Knowing how to have good social skills can also gain a person networks, and these people can impact how the rest of your career is based. Getting along with people is also a lot less stressful than disliking a person, because it keeps your mind focusing on the positive and essential parts of life, rather than the negative. So, as you can see I believe that getting along with people is a very important key to success.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by these comments AP Language, way to go!
ReplyDeleteon this quote i have to agree. agreeing with people and getting along is very important. in life there will be plenty of group projects you have to particapate in. good social skills are necesssary to complete your group assignment.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this quote because to make it in life you need to know people. Its not what you know its who you know. If you are friendly to everybody you meet you can be very success. If your mean to people you could end up messed up in life because that person you were mean to could be the person that is responsible for hiring you in 10 years.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote. I believe that in order to be successful one has to get along with others. It's a great thing to be able to put aside differences because everyone wants to reach the same goal. An individual might not necessarily like someone else, but it's better to tolerate that person instead of arguing with him or her. Nothing will get done by arguing. People have to learn how to communicate with others. I know from experience that there will be people in this world who we may not like, but we can't let those individuals distract us from finding and fulfilling our true purposes in life. We all have choices. We can either not get along and not reach any goals, or learn to like or tolerate others so we can all reach our goals. It's up to us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote. Although some may see it as better to be an individual, some people believe like I do that it is better to get along with others. If you look at life in general, there is not just you in the world. There are (in my estimate) about 7 billion other people in this world. There are many people that ,in your lifetime, you will have to interact with. I know for a fact that I will have to interact with a lot of people. If I just isolate myself, then I won't have a successful future because I wouldn't have met those people that could have given me an extra push in life. Also, it is important to communicate. For instance, many people you come across can have different interesting things to offer to your life. One could be language. If you can communicate in any language other than English - but not excluding, then, you will get to communicate with more people. If you have an interaction with one person who an speak Spanish and it will interest you to the point where you want to learn that language, then you can be able to get higher paying jobs, it can help you when you travel to an foreign country and you can gain more merit for you effort in trying to learn another language. Lastly, networking is a huge part of how people can help you become successful. When you have a chance to interact with people, you find that networking comes natural. You're selling yourself to others and making them believe in your work. This can get the even most unlikely person to drive you to be successful and invest in your business or company. Clearly it is important for people use people to their ability in this world. The more relationships you form that are healthy can benefit you when you most need it!
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this quote. Being able to get along with others is basically the key to success. Of course there is going to be a numerous amount of people that you may come across that you may not have too much of a good relationship with. That's just apart of life so it's expected. It's pretty much impossible for humans to get along with everyone. However, sometimes it's best to step up to the plate, be the bigger person and think outside the box if it's depending on your success. In today's society there are many humans who don't get along with their managers, parents, teachers, ect. too well. On the other had, you have to think about it; these are some of the people who actually play a huge part in helping us become successful. If it wasn't for them we probably wouldn't be where we're at today. Although, you may not fully agree with them on some things, it's best to at least try to build a good relationship with them and try to balance things out for the better. Without our teachers it would be completely impossible for humans to be successful. Therefore, not getting along with them or having a good relationship with them may not work out so well for you in the long run. For instance, there's a point in time when all students will need recommendations for colleges or maybe even jobs. This is where good relationships with teachers come in at. If you don't get along with your teachers, who can you depend on for a good recommendation? You'd be pretty much out of luck because if you don't have a decent relationship with them it's impossible for them to be able to write a letter for you to impress the staffs of that college or presuding them into accepting you into their school. That's why it's very important to get along with others, especially teachers because we're going to need them for things that will help lead to our success in the future. In short, it is very important to have a good relationship with the people around you in order to become successful within and through out life. Getting along and interacting with other humans well can be very beneficial for you now and later on in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Roosevelt’s idea that in order to be successful you must know how to get along with people. I agree because in every aspect of life there are people you have to interact with, whether it be at school, a job or even a store you will have to talk to someone. If you don’t get along with people or have a stand offish attitude no one will want to assist you or be around you because of the negative vibe that you give off. Whereas if you are cordial with someone and are some type of nice they won’t hesitate to give you a helping hand. It’s not necessary that you have to like this person but you at least have to be nice enough to be considered as an associate. Displaying this personality will allow you to build relationships, which will eventually lead to your success because in life it’s not about what you know but instead who you know.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Roosevelt's statement of being successful you must be able to get along with people. I agree with this because you might not know who will be able to help you get you to where you want to be in life.If your mean and have a bad attitude then that could ruin opportunities that somebody was willing to give to you and that could have set you up for success for you future but since your not able to be friendly and get along with people then you just ruined your chances of doing that.Having a nice, friendly and positive attitude could open so many doors for you because people like you and love the energy that you bring and they wouldn't mind helping you become successful.Showing that you can build relationships is a really good networking skill that could help you get to where you want. Now a days its not all about what you can do but its also about who you know because its the people that you build relationships with that can help you get started to success.
DeleteYes, I agree with Roosevelt's idea! I agree with this notion because it is important to have positive relationships in life because it will take you so much further. Networking is also apart of getting along with people because for one, it shows maturity, in that you are able to articulate yourself in a way that you are able to make a new relationship with someone you barely or don't even know. These are very good traits to obtain because it will take you down a prosperous path in life and make you even more successful in life, not just with money but within yourself. Furthermore, positive attitudes help you maintain good relationships because most people who are going places in life prefer not to hang around people with negative attitudes and maintaining a positive attitude will help you keep that good relationship which is what you need on your path to success. So, with all that being said you now understand why I agree! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with this statement. Getting along with other is essential to succeeding in life. For example, in the real world, it is important to network when searching for a job. A person must maintain people skills in order to build a positive relationship with a potential boss or client. This also applies in various other field such as school and life in general. In school, a child it taught ,from elementary school, how to work with others, and to respect their peers and administrators. This schooling carries all the way into high school. Even in senior year, seniors are giving tasks in which they must present teamwork and positive interpersonal skills, which will be highly beneficial in the real world. When searching for a spouse, the average person usually searches for a person who demonstrates a sense of kindness, compassion, and a caring nature. If a person does not present these aspects, it may be very hard for them to maintain a spouse; and really, who wants to spend the rest of their life alone? So, in a nutshell, all of these different aspects require building relationships with others. Without maintaining good interpersonal skills and demonstrating teamwork, it will be extremely difficult to succeed in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree that getting along well with others is important to one's success. If you are one of those people that hold grudges and frequently have problems with getting along with people there's a good chance that you wont receive any good outcomes in life. Somebody that has good people skills will create good relationships with the people they're around potentially making themselves look very professional. Even if you don't like someone at a job or workplace its important for those people who don't like each other to establish code switching and act like they get along to not create any havoc. There should be no excuse on why you display unacceptable behavior to someone you dislike because then you'll not only don't get along with that person but lose relationships with the people who witnessed it which is why everyone needs to learn to get along even if you strongly don't like each other. If someone lacks the skill of code switching they would most likely not succeed in life because they are unable to act politely to a certain group of people who they may be around. Also, if you don't easily get along with others it might affect you greatly due to the fact that everybody in life is not easy to be around or work with. Demonstrating that you can work with others no matter the circumstance can land you on the right path to success.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Roosevelt's statement that getting along with people is the single most important ingredient in the formula of success. I believe this because positive relationships are essential in every circumstance . For example at school and work , people have to be able to get along with colleagues in order to stay focused on tasks and perform at their maximum potential. Moreover , positive relationships are important because they can give you the extra push that everyone needs .You can work with each other and feed off each others energy to reach a common goal. Furthermore, you never know when you'll meet someone that you'll need later in life so negative relationships my affect your future . For instance, at school students need to build positive relationships with teachers because teacher recommendations are needed for several different things . Lastly , positive relationships are important because no one likes to pass on key information to someone they don't like . Key skills are taught from generation to generation , therefore respect can earn you key skills .
ReplyDeleteI agree with this quote because getting along with others can leave you benefits to become successful in life. For example, it reflects that you have great social skills---and having good social skills can result in quick assistance later because you've already built that relationship with that person. Although getting along with others doesn't always tie into someone's life to become successful. As a child, I had an issue with keeping my hands to myself in a situation that didn't concern me. I would always stick up for someone who I thought was right in a situation rather if I knew them or not. In other words, because I stoke up for that person, I gained their friendship and they would return a favor if I needed one from them. Also, when you enter the workforce, you would need the skill of getting along with people because it might be times when you don't like a co-worker. You would need to find common ground with them because you have to work with them and for the sake of your job, you wouldn't want to lose it for petty immaturity. However, getting along with people doesn't always mean its the golden ticket to success because some people can become successful without the people that they don't get along with. Take, rap artist Nicki Minaja, as an example. When she was first discovered, a lot of critics judged her by the she came off as a sex icon to youth. Just because of her sexuality interest and the lack of meaning in her lyrics, people thought she wasn't going to make it in the industry, but as we can see today, she's one of the top female rapper selling over millions of her first and second albums. The truth is you can either have people that you get along with to help your future or you can be on your and still become successful.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Roosevelt's quote " the most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people". Although it is very important to get along well with others, I do not agree that it is the "most important single ingredient" in becoming successful. Some may say that you'll need a mentor to help you gain knowledge on how to be successful ; however, people such as online business owners show that its not the most important ingredient in success. Those people don't know their clients from a can of paint, yet they still revive their money and business because getting along with people or building a relationship is not the main factor in success.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with Roosevelt's quote, being that relationships are very important to succeed in life. You need to know how to get along with others because in the world today you are never alone. One should always make sure they are respectful to all parties even if they aren't so respectful to you. In addition, you will need to know how to get along with others in the working field because even if you believe you are excellent at your craft, it is still much more you can learn through partners at you job. There also may be a group assignment that you will have to work on and nasty attitude won't get you or anyone else a promotion at work. Not only in the work force, but in school as well, you should know how to get along with your peers and teachers because they both help you on an everyday basis. If you are known to have a awesome attitude, more and more people will want to work with you which will create so many more opportunities for you to further your knowledge and career. Also there are critics everywhere if you genuinely get along with people you won't ever have to worry about stepping on another's toes with your "horrible attitude"
